Fresh Android Apps for Aug. 7: Raved, Holo Launcher HD, Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies

Todays leading Fresh App is Raved, an app that taps into where youve checked-in and what your friends like before offering you personalized recommendations of the businesses around you. Next up is Holo Launcher HD which provides the look and feel of Jelly Bean plus plenty of flexibility to replace your current Android launcher. Finally, weve got Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies, which despite being a Sony Xperia-exclusive for one month, is still a noteworthy release anyway.

Raved (Free)

Raved emerged on iOS just the other week, so were happy to see the Android release was not too far behind. More than just a simple recommendation engine for businesses you might like close by, Raved taps into what your friends enjoy and where youve previously checked-in.

Whether youre looking for a restaurant or a day spa, this app offers personalized, instant recommendations and because its based on what you and your friends like, you should be able to trust them. Its easy to bookmark businesses you want to keep track of, or share your findings on various social networks so others can rave about them too.

Holo Launcher HD (Free)

Holo Launcher is a popular Ice Cream Sandwich-themed launcher, but its developers, Mobint Software, just released Holo Launcher HD into Google Play, which takes its theming from Android 4.1 Jelly Bean instead. It is an early release, so expect further updates and enhancements over time.

Holo Launcher HD is a very customizable launcher with up to nine desktop pages with a 10x10 grid, scrollable dock, a variety of icons and labels and a lot more. A $3.99 upgrade to Holo Launcher Plus (which works with both Holo Launcher and Holo Launcher HD now) sees further features unlocked like overlapping widgets, unread/count notifications, more transition effects and desktop gestures.

Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies ($6.99)

GluMobile released Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies into Google Play just before the weekend. While this would usually be call for celebration, unfortunately its a Sony Xperia exclusive for 30 days first. Its an adaptation of the best-selling console game of the same name, offering plenty of gruesome zombie slaying.

You can play solo, or join a team of four players via Wi-Fi, as you mow down reams of zombies with a variety of weapons over a number of different maps like Kino Der Toten, Ascension and Call of the Dead: Directors Cut. Theres also Dead-Ops Arcade, a 50-level zombie gauntlet which will truly test your zombie-slaying skills.
